unfortunately, beetles, being small creatures with lifespans i am unable gauge from before i obtained them, are prone to croaking unexpectedly.
this is a page i have dedicated for the beetles in my care who have unfortunately passed away.
he was the hardest beetle to pick a name for! he was an asphalt ironclad beetle, and i ended up naming him after the Star Trek character and Borg, Hugh.
i got this name from my senior year English teacher, who loved both Star Trek and beetles. when she remarked on how much the beetle species resembled the borgs, i knew it had to be his name.
even Hugh's behavior was like that of the borgs, in their bizarre robotic and orchestrated movements. he was aloof, kept to himself and typically went on his own journey away from the rest of the beetles. almost like a weeping angel, he froze when he was observed, and then surprised me by being across the tank when i checked next, yet i never was able to catch him moving from place to place. what a mysterious beetle he was.
i took his remains to a nearby nature preserve, where i lowered him slowly into some dirt beside a large tree that i felt resembled him.
a freshly plucked rose was laid atop the site to commemorate him.
